چکیده

Continuing advances in wireless communications and feature integration into laptop computers are creating the need to allow nomadic users to make network connections to the Internet and with each other with no loss of functionality. This requires new advances in routing protocols and application interfaces. We use mobile-IP as the basis for providing mobility for nomadic users, and extend it to facilitate additional services for nomadic users both at the network layer and above. As an example of how mobile-IP can be useful with other protocols at the network layer, we show how mobile-IP can naturally extend the usefulness of ad-hoc networking. For higher level protocols, we show that, by ooering a callback service, mobile-IP can enable applications to be responsive to changing network conditions. As an example of this technique, we show how service location can beneet from interaction with mobile-IP. We also mention some other nomadic services which will similarly beneet from a callback service from mobile-IP.

Routing Protocols for Ad Hoc Mobile Wireless Networks

The routing protocols meant for wired networks can not be used for mobile ad hoc networks because of the mobility of networks. The ad hoc routing protocols can be divided into two classes :table-driven and on-demand. This paper discusses routing protocols belonging to each category. Proceedings of ICCT 2003 The Role of Ad hoc Networking in Future Wireless Communications '

This paper discusses the role of ad hoc networking in future wireless communications. Ad hoc networks are'classified as isolated ad hoc networks with large and small sizes, integrated ad hoc networks in various scenarios and cellular ad hoc networks for the future mobile access networks. The very low traffic performance of large scale ad hoc networks is shown by simulation results, indicating s...

Estimating Reliability in Mobile ad-hoc Networks Based on Monte Carlo Simulation (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Each system has its own definition of reliability. Reliability in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) could be interpreted as, the probability of reaching a message from a source node to destination, successfully. The variability and volatility of the MANET configuration makes typical reliability methods (e.g. reliability block diagram) inappropriate. It is because, no single structure or configurat...

A Layer-2 Architecture for Interconnecting Multi-hop Hybrid Ad Hoc Networks to the Internet

Recently, the research on mobile ad hoc networks is departing from the view of stand-alone networks, to focus on hybrid self-organized network environments interconnected to the Internet. This type of networks is built on a mix of fixed and mobile nodes using both wired and multi-hop wireless technologies, and may be easily integrated into classical wired/wireless networking infrastructures. In...

Integration of Mobile IPv6 into Mobile Ad-Hoc Network Systems

Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) technology is a wireless network system that may make ubiquitous computing possible. This technology is especially promising for vehicle-to-vehicle and road-to-vehicle communication. However, there are some problems with IP mobility support in MANETs. One technology that provides IP mobility to mobile nodes is Mobile IP. To solve IP mobility problems in MANETs, we ...
